On Wednesday 23rd September, The Beaconsfield School celebrated the upcoming European day of Languages by adding a French twist to lessons and activities during the day. We wanted the whole school to experience a little bit of French culture and lessons incorporated the theme of the Tour De France cycling event and French speaking culture to show how one theme can appear in all subjects.
To ensure that students were given maximum opportunity to savour all things French, we provided a full French menu in the canteen for the day and some students even tackled the food challenge of delicious frog’s legs, Roquefort cheese and snails!
Lots of the staff got into the swing of things by dressing up as French characters (eg. Tintin, Marie-Antoinette, Mona Lisa, etc) to the amusement of many students and the MFL department ran a European Day of Languages poster competition, where the winning designs will be entered into the national competition organised by the Routes into Languages Organisation.
Students could also enjoy turning into a French person for a few moments when taking pictures with moustache and beret props in the photo booth.
Many students commented on the range of engaging lessons, tasty food and fantastic outfits on the day and we look forward to running another similar day later in the year.
