GCSE Results 24th August 2017
Following on from the excellent ‘A’ Level and Level 3 BTEC results last week there has been another morning of screams and tears of joy at TBS.
We are extremely proud of our students who have had to deal with the much-publicised changes to Maths and English GCSE this year alongside the legacy GCSEs in other subjects. The majority of the students have adapted well to the changes that this has brought and worked hard to secure impressive results in these unpredictable times in education.
The outcomes they have achieved will certainly help them secure places on courses of their choice for the next stage in their educational careers.
We were delighted that our students achieved passes in both English and Mathematics that continue our upward trend. 67% of students gained 5 A*- C with 54% gaining a ‘strong pass’ in English 74% gaining a standard pass. In maths, students gained the top new grade 9 with 37% gained a ‘strong pass’ or above with 64% receiving a standard pass.
John Fletcher, Head Teacher, said ‘these results show the hard work that students and staff have put in and are testimony to individuals’ efforts. I congratulate students and staff for coping so well with the new national courses in English and Mathematics and the results are very pleasing indeed. In particular, I commend a group of students who attained the new grade 9 and 8 in English and/or Mathematics, which is higher and rarer than the old A*. This means that those students are in the top 8% of all students’ results in the country. A stunning and brilliant achievement.
Some of our top achievers include:
Leanna Adams, Andrea Bille Gammelgard, Kirsty Forsyth, Amber Hall, Gloria Martinez Garcia, Safa Mahmood, Megan Milson, Jennifer Merridew, Florence Morris, Roma Richardson, Simran Saran, Danielle Solar, Zaim Uddin and Aled Wrigley.
