Resistant Materials Key Stage 4 Year 11
During Year 11 students can opt to take Resistant Materials GSCE with the AQA exam board. The GCSE is 60% controlled assessment and 40% exam (taken at the end of year 11). This is a 2 hour exam based on their design and theory knowledge.
Throughout the year the students will take on two mini projects in practice for the controlled assessment. This will enable them to practice their research and design skills as well as practical aspects. We also take this opportunity to deliver parts of the theory to ensure students have the base to begin their controlled assessment in June.
Students will produce a portfolio of design work which will support their final made product. The portfolio is worth 60% of the controlled assessment and the final product is worth 40%. Students will become independent learners, exploring a range of skills and processes to achieve the best outcome. To support this further we run afterschool catch up sessions where specialist teachers are available to answer any questions or queries about their controlled assessments.
